BODY COMPOSITION SCANS

Our InBody 580 provides state-of-the-art composition scans that offer a detailed look at your body's health metrics, including muscle mass, fat distribution, and bone density. These scans provide critical information that helps us identify potential risk factors and track your progress over time. By understanding your body's unique composition, we can develop targeted strategies to optimise your health and prevent illness.

WHAT IS A BODY COMPOSITION SCAN?

The InBody 580 is a state-of-the-art body composition analyser that measures key health metrics, including body fat percentage, muscle mass, water balance, and more. It uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology to provide detailed and accurate results.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • The device sends a safe, low-level electrical current through the body via electrodes placed on your hands and feet. The resistance (impedance) of the current varies depending on the tissue type (e.g., fat, muscle, water). This data is then analysed to provide a detailed breakdown of your body composition.

  • Yes, the InBody 580 is completely safe for most people. It uses non-invasive and painless bioelectrical impedance technology. However, individuals with pacemakers or implanted medical devices should not use the scanner, as the electrical current may interfere with their devices.

  • A typical scan takes less than 60 seconds and results are generated immediately.

  • To ensure accurate results:

    • Avoid eating or drinking for at least 2-4 hours before the scan.

    • Avoid exercising or sweating excessively before the scan.

    • Remove metal accessories (jewellery, watches, etc.).

    • Wear light clothing and avoid heavy or layered outfits.

    • Use the restroom before the scan to avoid changes in body water distribution.

  • Pregnant individuals are generally discouraged from using the InBody 580 due to the lack of safety studies on pregnancy and the potential for inaccurate results caused by fluid retention.

  • The InBody 580 provides a comprehensive report, including:

    • Body fat percentage

    • Skeletal muscle mass

    • Body water distribution (intracellular and extracellular)

    • Visceral fat level

    • Segmental lean mass (arms, legs, and trunk)

    • Basal metabolic rate (BMR)

    • Body composition history (if repeated scans are done)

  • The InBody 580 is highly accurate for tracking body composition changes over time. However, results can vary based on hydration levels, food intake, and adherence to pre-scan guidelines. For best results, consistency in preparation and timing of scans is key

  • For most individuals, scans every 4–6 weeks are recommended to track progress and adjust health or fitness goals. Athletes or individuals on specialised programs may benefit from more frequent scans (e.g., every 2–4 weeks). Your coach will make a suggestion on scanning frequency based on your personal goals.

  • While the InBody 580 provides industry-standard metrics, it’s most useful for tracking your personal progress over time. Comparing results with others may not be meaningful due to differences in age, gender, and fitness levels. Likewise comparing results with those received from other devices may also skew result changes and progression.

  • Yes, weight is a critical input for body composition analysis. The InBody 580 combines your weight with impedance measurements to provide a comprehensive breakdown of body composition.

  • Dehydrated can distort measurements of body water, muscle mass, and fat percentage. Following pre-scan hydration guidelines ensures accurate results.

  • Yes, the InBody 580 can be used for children over the age of 3. However, we don’t recommend body scans for children under 16 years and interpretation of results should be done carefully, as growth and development affect body composition.
